Almost Two Years Later

Wow. I'm glad I had my fingers crossed when I wrote the last sentence of that first entry. Happy I wish I could say I've been up to Really Important Things, and I guess I have been here and there, but not so much that I can excuse the complete neglect of this site. Truth is, I've done plenty of blogging on LJ (no link cause that stuff tends to run more personal) and micro-blogging on Twitter (@gregperham, @youngjedi, @swinggraphics) and Facebook. But for some reason, this Web page, with its single, two-year-stale entry of 45 words, persists at the top of Google's results for my name. (SEO pundits take note: that name in the copyright notice must carry a lot of weight.) So it's been on my mind that I really ought to update it…finally.

First, the links to my travel photos in the Inception post don't work any more because Yahoo! decided to close down all personal GeoCities sites. Sad Before it went the way of the dodo, I took a look at my little site for the last time and realized that I'd created a sort of rudimentary JavaScript-based CMS for the thing. Pretty cool.

Speaking of Web design, I've had a couple of independent projects. Those that I'm proudest to show haven't been released yet. One is for an artist in Ireland who just hasn't said, "Make it live," yet, tho it's been almost a year. The other is a redesign for Deals & Steals in Northampton. (If you follow the link and it doesn't look all slick and AJAX-y, I haven't finished it yet.) I did two large shopping cart sites for a jewelry seller with some snazzy modifications, but the graphics on the site leave something to be desired. And I'm still maintaining a couple of other sites to various degrees.

The freelance Web design should really be seen as a hobby, as I work full-time for Healthcommunities.com as a Website Manager (actually part of my title) for physicians and Miscellaneous Techie Other (not actually part of my title).

I really should get my travel photos (and journal) back online. I love so many of them and I think they're wonderful to share! A smattering are on FB, but, you know, that doesn't count for much. Flickr is a no-go because you have to pay to host more than a few pics, and I don't particularly like the interface besides. I would point you to my travel journal, but GreatestJournal also shut down some time back, and while I think I rescued most/maybe all of my entries, you can imagine that if I haven't bothered to write a single silly post on this—the nexus of all things Me (as far as Google is concerned)—I might not have gotten around to the tedious task of republishing each time-stamped travel story from a log I kept five years ago. To that I will eventually add the manuscript journal I kept while hiking on the AT one summer.

That's the plan, anyway.

Inception

While I work on getting some photos and video up, you can still check out my old travel photos site. It includes photos from Thailand and Italy.

I would say to check back here soon, but I think a safer bet is next month...maybe.
